Chitwan National Park is located in the subtropical lowlands of south-central Nepal in Bagmati & Gandaki Provinces, about 160 km from Kathmandu and 145 km from Pokhara. Established in 1973 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is Nepal’s first national park and one of Asia’s finest wildlife reserves.
The park covers dense sal forests, riverine jungles, grasslands, wetlands, and the Rapti, Narayani, and Reu rivers, creating an ideal habitat for diverse wildlife. Chitwan is world-famous for protecting rare species such as the one-horned rhinoceros, Royal Bengal tiger, gharials (fish-eating crocodiles), wild elephants, sloth bears, leopards, and over 540 species of birds.
The region is also home to the indigenous Tharu community, known for their unique culture, stick dances, traditional mud houses, and centuries-old relationship with the jungle environment. Sauraha, the main tourist hub near the park, offers comfortable lodges, cultural programs, and access to jungle activities. Chitwan provides a completely different experience from Nepal’s mountains — warm climate, flat terrain, and rich tropical biodiversity.
The Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour is a wildlife and cultural experience ideal for nature lovers, families, and adventure seekers. The tour includes jeep safaris, canoe rides, jungle walks, birdwatching, and Tharu cultural programs, offering opportunities to spot rare animals and explore Nepal’s tropical wilderness.
